Chick Trip

While having little boys has been loads of fun thus far, it has been an occasional request of my little lady, we fondly call her Ms. B, to escape from the wild things she calls her brothers (mostly referring to the three year old version) and spend an afternoon with mom. "Just like old times," she'd say affectionately. Many times, I'm glad she asked.

And so we go on a jaunt and do things she likes and take the chance to explore places her younger brothers or father for that matter, will have zero patience for. It's our exclusive girl time together. Below are pictures of one such afternoon.

Ms. B's been asking for an Isabel "Pepper" Roxas print for her room for some time and so first on our agenda that day was to visit Pepper's little corner gallery and shop at La'O Center on Pasay Road corner Makati Ave.

Pepper is a brilliant children's book illustrator who has moved on to create other mixed media, paper products and even toys! Check her out at www.studioroxas.com.

Unfortunately for us, the prints available we're limited in selection. But more are supposed to arrive when Pepper comes home to visit from NYC soon.

There were still these pretty and eery postcards from her Maude Marie and other Curiosities series however. Love them.

And these winsome Chibi Warrior and Madbot stamps. Ms. B loves them.

Needless to say, we have to make a return trip in the near future!

On the second floor of the La'O Center is another haven for girls of all ages. Paper Trail is the bomb of paper and stationery stores in Manila and Ms. B and I spent quite a considerable amount of time here. She went nuts actually and check out why...

Notebooks of all designs and sizes.

Bags and gift sets irresistible to any little girl.

Albums, stationery...

and hip journals irresistible to any paper-loving grown up.

Even hard to find Ugly Doll journals that Ms. B wasn't going home without!

I liked these chichi post-its.

And these adorable baby albums.

These stickers make me want to seal envelope upon envelope of handwritten letters.

And these make me want to wash and smell my hands.

Looks like Paper Trail successfully got us hooked!

On the way out we spied upon Shop La Familia, again in a little nook in the same building and bought a couple of things for the wild things at home.

They carry unusual brands for children and have tons of pretty, pretty stuff. You just have to be patient as they're stuffed to the rafters!

After our little excursion at the La'O Center, Ms. B and I moved on and drove down Pasay Road to have lunch at a small french restaurant La Cabane.

We were the only ones in there for late lunch. Usually not a good sign. But the seats we're inviting enough.

And so was the waitress so we decided to stay anyway.

If I'm not mistaken these three pairs of little bruschettas were complimentary. One had salsa or a caprese sans the cheese, the another had a pate' and the last had salmon. All we're delicious.

This salad with a creamy, mustardy dressing was good as well and had salmon, shrimp, mangoes, tomatoes and onions in it.

Oooh! The carbonara that Ms. B had hit the mark! Surprising for a french restaurant to have carbonara this good...

and shameful for a french restaurant to have beef bourguignon this unremarkable. Sigh! Can't have everything.

Anyhow, I'll most likely be back and steer clear of this one! I had a great time Ms. B! Until our next date...
